This jewel of the Adriatic is floating on its blue lagoon connected by nearly 400 bridges and with 150 winding canals. The City of Bridges is a myriad of waterways and cobblestone paths, traffic-free streets marked by piazzas and extraordinary Catholic churches. Singing gondoliers in striped jerseys, the Rialto and the Bridge of Sighs, masked balls, golden barges, courtesans in gondolas and crumbling palaces facing streets made of water, no wonder why the Serenissima has been a fabled destination for centuries. 2nd Day: Koper /Slovenia Koper is carved grey Istrian limestone, eight squares situated at the outer edge of the town covered with a carpet of white stone, eleven other squares, remnants of an ancient city wall boasting the largest cathedral in Slovenia. The facades of the buildings and their interiors reveal the millennial history of Koper. The valley of the castles a fortified border that once separated the territory of the Venetian Republic from the Austrian region. Nearby famous stud farm Lipica founded in 1580 offers visitor moments of relaxation in its recreational centre. 3rd Day: Umag /Croatia Umag small town and port on the north-western coast of Istria, presents “Croatia’s gateway to Europe”. The old town of Umag is located on a small peninsula (which was once an island) on the north-western coast of Istria. It was built on the foundations of Roman archaeological ruins and it has preserved its network of narrow streets and a Medieval urban structure. Even the Romans proclaimed Umag for their seaside resort and connected it with the mainland. The magnificence and splendour of those times today is reflected in the many Venetian houses in the old part of Umag. 4th Day: Brijuni Brijuni, are a group of two larger and twelve smaller islets along the West coast of Istria, near Pula. Both archipelago and the surrounding sea are under protection as National Park and open to visitors. The fact that it was visited by the élite of Austrian, Hungarian and German aristocracy when Istria was part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy speaks of its beauty and charm. In more recent history almost every major statesman visited the islands as Brijuni were residence of late President Tito of Yugoslavia. The islands are rich in natural beauties and sumptuous wildlife (680 different local and exotic plants, 150 bird species brought here from various parts of the world.). On Brijuni there is an attractive archaeological site the Byzantine castrum and luxurious Roman villa, Ethnographic collection, Collection of frescoes, Archaeological Museum and Natural history exhibit. 5th Day: Mali Losinj Mali Losinj known by its sea tradition. Annunziata is a small church of Mary’s announcement at the cape of the Cikat bay, a place where women used to wait and prey for their husbands to return safely. in 1892 Veli and Mali Losinj became climatic spas, which opened a new economic realm – tourism. Its special climate, light winters and not too hot summers, which cured the first visitor of the climatic medical center in 1885. The bridge which is placed at the entering to Mali Losinj, above the channel which was ditched through the narrowest part of the island, makes two separated peace’s of land that are connected by the movable bridge. It makes possible for smaller boats and yachts to enter the port. 6th Day: Telascica Telascica – Thanks to its exceptionally valuable plant and animal life, geological and geomorpho-logical phenomena, valuable colonies of the sea bottom and interesting archaeological heritage this area became protected in 1980 as a Nature Park. Three basic phenomena are certainly the main characteristics of the Nature Park: the unique bay of Telascica as one of the safest, the most beautiful and the largest havens on the Adriatic that includes 25 small bays and 69 km of the well-indented coastline, the cliffs of the island of Dugi otok or so-called “Stene”, rising up to 200 m above the sea level and falling down vertically up to 90 m below the sea level, and finally the salt lake called “Mir” with its curative characteristics. 7th Day: Skradin Skradin, the headquarters of Krka National Park (proclaimed in 1985 as the seventh national park in Croatia), a spacious, largely unchanged region of exceptional and multifaceted natural value, and includes one or more preserved or insignificantly altered ecosystems.
